Templo Expiatorio – Guadalajara, MX

Templo Expiatorio – Guadalajara by Bill Dahl

This sacred space in Guadalajara, Mexico left me speechless…It’s beauty, grandeur, architecture and immensity consumed my being and left tears in my eyes…It is a MUST VISIT. Make Guadalajara a  HIGH PRIORITY on your MUST Visit bucket list.

Construction began on this cathedral in 1897 and was completed 75 years later in 1972. It is constructed of hand carved stone and stained glass – that adorns the structure throughout – including –  its’ 100+ foot interior spire soaring into the atmosphere above you.

Don’t overlook that at each hour, there are hand carved characters that emerge from the interior of the structure on the outside (far left of the front main entry) on a moving carousel to music.

Just a fabulously humbling experience to enjoy the privilege to enter this sacred space.

The Sacred Architecture of Central Mexico

Catedral de Guadalajara

Whether you are a religious person or NOT – the architecture of the sacred places in Central Mexico is an inspiring and world class marvel.

On a recent trip, I captured images inside and out of cathedrals in Guadalajara (Catedral Metropolitano, Templo Expiatorio, (and many others), in Ajijic, Chapala, Jocotepec, Jiquipan, Tizpan, San Cristobal and Petatan.

For me, and I am not Catholic, these structures- many of which took 100 years and 3 generations to build – are humbling – and are a testament to the creative genius of the human spirit and the penchant to create unique and special places for the celebration of the God-Man relationship. Needless to say, they memorialize the centrality of religion in Mexican culture.

The Architecture of Guadalajara – Zona Centro Historico

The architecture of Guadalajara, Mexico is more than magical to me. I walk for hours – day and night – alone – with my camera gear to capture the essence of the magnificent architectural works in this amazing, incredible and vibrantly gorgeous city. It is Mexico’s second largest city and one that typically escapes the attention of the tourist trade from North America, Asia and Europe…You no longer have to make that mistake…CHOOSE Guadalajara for your next adventure!!!

I hope you enjoy the link below to the photo album from October 2018. I ALWAYS stay at the NH Hotel in downtown Guadalajara in the Zona Centro Historico. Ramon is THE World Class Guest Relations Manager and Patricia is a fantastico Guest Relations resource. The NH Hotel is the perfect place to reside to enjoy walking to the breathtaking historical treasures this city possesses. I recommend the 5th floor rooms facing east with the outdoor terrace – where one has an amazing view of Catedral Metropolitano (especially at night). Make CERTAIN you enjoy their restaurant on the 7th floor – PISO 7 – …SUPERB food, WORLD CLASS ARTWORK throughout the Restaurant (and hotel), beautiful architecture, GREAT WIFI, Outstanding staff — and my absolute favorite view in Guadalajara ( a dinner in PISO 7 after dark is memorable – breakfast is Off The Charts – Delicioso!!!!!!! ).

The images displayed in this photo album are HIGH QUALITY images captured with Canon professional photography equipment and post-capture processed in Adobe Lightroom – along with some HDR images processed in Aurora HDR.
