Cave Falls is a waterfall area on the Fall River (aka Falls River) in the far southwestern corner of Yellowstone National Park. This area is accessed by a VERY rough and rutted road from the Ashton, Idaho area – driving east 22 + miles. (Would suggest you select another location if you have a passenger vehicle – Recommend 4WD vehicles with high clearance ONLY. (This “road” knocked my headlight connections loose on my 4WD – driving cautiously).
This is BEAR COUNTRY – CARRY BEAR SPRAY AND MAKE NOISE!!!
It is near the Bechler Ranger Station in Yellowstone N.P. — GREAT trout fishing — The area is actually in the State of Wyoming – IN Y.N.P. You need a Yellowstone N.P. fishing license to fish here (which can be purchased at the Bechler Ranger Station). Be careful…if you miss your location on the map (downstream) you can be fishing in Wyoming and NOT Yellowstone!!! Be safe and have Wyoming, Yellowstone N.P. and Idaho fishing licenses on your person.
The Cave Falls Campground is there. The Forest Service website specifically states: “The campground is located in grizzly bear habitat that requires special precautions be taken with food.”
